Screen-Free Rewards: Privacy notice for parents and guardians

Version [v] · [date] · Read this in: English · മലയാളം · ಕನ್ನಡ · हिन्दी

Who we are. Screen-Free Rewards is provided by [legal name of Data Fiduciary] [Owner to fill], [address]. Questions or concerns about your family's data: [contact person / role], [contact email].

What this app does. It helps you reward your child for time away from screens. You, the parent, start, approve or record each screen-free session, and the app adds up the points and rewards you set. The app does not monitor what your child does on this or any other device, does not track your child, and shows no ads.

What we use, and why

  1. About your child: a nickname, an age group and a child PIN, so your child can sign in and see their points. The sessions you approve, points, tasks and rewards, so the points system works. Reward requests your child makes, so you can approve them.
  2. About you (and a second parent, if you add one): name, email address and a hashed (scrambled) parent PIN, to keep Parent Controls private, to send the emails you choose and to help you reset a forgotten PIN. Your name and year of birth (or a DigiLocker "18 or over" result), only to check that a parent or guardian, who is an adult, has agreed.
  3. Your consent record: what you agreed to, when, in which language, and how you were checked, so we can show that you agreed.

Where it goes. Most of it stays on this device. The emails and daily PDF you choose are sent through Google Apps Script, a Google service we use to send email, and stay in your inbox until you delete them. [If you pair a parent phone: describe sync, to verify.] If you download your family file, it is saved wherever you choose. We don't sell or share your family's data with anyone for marketing. We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

How long we keep it. The data on the device stays until you delete it or withdraw consent. We keep a basic record of the emails we've sent (no points or history) for one year, as the law requires, and then delete it. If the app isn't used for [period, to verify], we will remind you and then delete the data.

Your choices and rights. You can, at any time:

  • withdraw consent: Parent Controls → Privacy → Withdraw, or email [contact email]. It is as easy as giving consent;
  • get a summary of the data we hold and who we share it with;
  • correct or update it;
  • delete your child's history, with or without leaving the app;
  • name a nominee who can use these rights for you if you die or can't act;
  • raise a complaint with us at [contact email]. We'll reply within [30] days.

If you're not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India ([official link, to verify]).

Security. PINs are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. Parent Controls locks after repeated wrong PINs. If something goes wrong with your data, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Changes. If we change this notice in a way that affects your choices, we'll ask you again.
